Grand Ole Opry
Beginning just a few weeks after WSM first hit the airwaves in 1925, the Grand Ole Opry is not only the show that made country music famous, it’s the most famous show in country music.
The list of current Grand Ole Opry members includes such stars as Loretta Lynn, Brad Paisley, Connie Smith and Carrie Underwood, all of whom return regularly to sing on the same spot—- a round, 6-foot piece of oak wood at center stage. Cut from the Ryman Auditorium stage (the show’s home 1943-74), the circle pays tribute to the country icons—- Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and Roy Acuff among them—- who have entertained millions of fans from that very spot.
